Partners For Conservation Program (PFC)

What is Partners for Conservation?

The partners For Conservation Program is a state funded in which the Ford County Soil and Water Conservation District administers technical and finical assistance to local landowners and producers in Ford County. Our office administers the assistance for projects that prevent and control soil erosion, filtering runoff into our waterways and drainage ditches. This program consist of cost-share assistance for for certain projects that meet the PFC guidelines. Our goal is to financially assist landowners and operators with the investment of cover crops for the first years of planting. The benefits of cover crops do not happen overnight, but continuing this conservation practice will produce numerus benefits.

We are currently accepting applications for all PFC practices and financial assistance (cost-share) will be allocated to landowners and producers based on available funds and environmental impact. Stop by our office or give us a call and we will provide you with additional information pertaining to any of the practices that are listed below.

Benefits Of Cover Crops:

One of the eligible conservation practices is planting cover crops. Cover Crops are a way of creating more productive soils by reducing soil erosion, fertilizer inputs nutrient loss, improving organic matter, water quality , wildlife habitat, soil structure, moisture conservation, biodiversity in the soil, water holding capacity, and breaking up soil compaction. The cover crop practice gives landowners and producers, that farm in Ford County, and opportunity to get involved with planting cover crops without financial risk for input costs.

The cover crop practice offers up to three years of cost-share. the cover crop practice is 60% cost-share but is limited to a maximum of $40 per acre and/or $1,600 for each year per landowner (the lesser of the two). We understand that the results to your soil's health is not immediate, but our hope us that financial assistance makes it to start cover crops and observe the benefits that come from planting them every year.

  • Reduce Soil Erosion

  • Increase Organic Matter

  • Improve water Quality

  • Great for Wildlife Habitat

  • Improve Soil Structure

  • Moisture Conservation

  • Biodiversity for Insects/Worms

Water Well Decommissioning

Another eligible conservation is water well decommissioning. The purpose of this program is to ensure that well abandonments are properly preformed to prevent a direct conduit to pollute the ground water and to target wells that pose greater risks to groundwater resources. This program offers a chance to have paperwork guidance with the local departments and financial assistance For completing the water well decommissioning.

Cost-share for the water well decommissioning is 60% of the actual cost, but not to exceed $400 (whichever is less). For irrigation the cost-share is 60% of the actual cost, but not to exceed $750 (Whichever is less).
